“Hemos solicitado a otras organizaciones sus listados, algunas como la de los Indios Nativos Encarcelados nos han planteado que su listado es confidencial y no pueden darlo, sin embargo por sus propios comunicados conocimos que existen 200 nativos, de origen indio en cárceles estadounidenses, en cuyas acusaciones se pone de manifiesto que los mismos fueron detenidos por luchar contra el sistema, por lo que son presos políticos. Eso hace un total de 357 prisioneros políticos. Si a esto le sumamos los 166 de la cárcel de Guantánamo, hace un total de 523 presos políticos.”

This is 1973 video of Sylvia Rivera speaking at the Christopher Street Liberation Day Rally, where she literally had to fight her way to the stage, past a crowd of transphobes and racists who tried to silence her. When Sylvia finally gets to the stage, she looks at the audience, grabs the mic, and shouts, “Y’all better quiet down!”. Sylvia immediately starts denouncing the gay community for ignoring the struggles outside the cis-white-gay spectrum. This video is amazing.

Papá Liborio el santo vivo de Maguana

A principios del siglo XX surgió en la zona norte de San Juan de la Maguana un extraño hombre de barbas largas que se decía enviado de Dios, curaba a los enfermos con un ensalmo, un buche de ron y un tomo llamado La Tirindanga, invitaba a la gente a hacer el bien y vivir en paz, incentivaba el culto a la Santísima Trinidad y hacía dramáticas profecías.
Se trata de Liborio Mateo Ledesma, llamado por algunos de sus seguidores El Maestro y por otros, Papá Liborio, quien entre 1908 y 1922 se convirtió en una especie de Mesías para gran parte de los habitantes de la referida comarca, algo que fue visto como un peligro por los gobiernos de Ramón Cáceres, Eladio Victoria y la Intervención Militar Norteamericana, respectivamente.
